Silver jubilee of Tuticorin district bifurcation planned



The district administration has planned for a series of programmes for the silver jubilee of the district’s bifurcation from Tirunelveli.

A number of cultural programmes is in store at the newly established Pearl City beach adjacent to Nehru Park on beach road. The district administration has come out with a series of developments across the district to commemorate the bifurcation.

Artistes would perform a series of programmes on art and culture in different facets at the beach venue on all Sundays from July 1 to October 21, according to statement. Minister for Labour Welfare S.T. Chellapandian along with Collector Ashish Kumar paid a visit to the programme venue here on Saturday and took stock of arrangements. The Pearl City beach park would be spruced up with additional infrastructural developments at a cost of Rs.1.5 crore. The park would be augmented with facilities, including pathway and basic amenities. To maintain cleanliness, thorny shrubs would also be cleared at regular intervals. More importantly, the park would have two highmast lights at the beach park under MLA Development Funds to the tune of Rs.1.5 lakh.

Besides, Mr. Chellapandian expressed his wish to spruce up the Nehru Park on beach road under MLA funds at a cost of Rs. 5 lakh. Deputy Mayor P. Xavier, Revenue Divisional Officer, G. Latha, Tahsildar Kaliyugavaradhan, Executive Engineer of Corporation S.A. Rajagopalan, and others accompanied during the inspection.
