“Thoothukudi Greening Week”

Dear Friends,

As per my discussions with our District Collector, let us plan for a “Thoothukudi Greening Week”, as an integral part of THOOTHUKUDI SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS.

In that week, the plan is to plant quality taller seedlings in schools, colleges, visible public places. We will have tree-planting programs at several places on every day of that week. Such function will also include call...ing speakers, students, VIPs, guests and media and generating more awareness about greening our district. We will distribute leaflets and pamphlets (about the importance of forests and wildlife, important eco-tourism places nearby, forest profile of Thoothukudi District, etc.). After the week, we will be compiling our achievements in the said week.

I want your views and advice on all aspects and especially on the following: -

1. Any alternative name for “Thoothukudi Greening Week”.
2. Which week should we celebrate as “Greening Week”, considering the school vacations?
3. Which are the places, apart from schools and colleges, we should go for planting (while suggesting, kindly look into the scope of protection and watering of seedlings).
4. Design of banner (displaying under our already selected logo the slogan of “Thoothukudi Greening Week”.
5. Funding, especially for banners, arranging functions, publicity, prizes, mementos, photography, videography, compilations, etc.
6. Volunteers.

Kindly post your valuable suggestions.

Regards,

R. Nihar, IFS
District Forest Officer
Thoothukudi.
