Port to set up new ‘marina' at a cost of Rs.60 crore

V.O. Chidambaranar Port of Tuticorin is all set to establish a new ‘marina' with lots of entertainment for revellers at old port premises. The much expected development works would be augmented on 25 acres of land between the Collector's bungalow and Zone B at the old Port, which faces Tuticorin coast, A. Subbiah, Chairman of the Port, who to...ok pride in upgrading the Port City with additional infrastructure , said here on Friday.

A proposal, which has been forwarded to Ministry of Shipping, was also approved. The estimated cost of the ‘marina' is Rs.60 crore. Three berths would be set up at about 1.5 to 2 meter draft to accommodate tourist boats and pleasure yachts. Many youngsters would get an exposure to the marine wealth off Tuticorin coast. By glass bottom boats, students could also go on an educational tour to study of marine organisms. Besides, the marina park would have aquarium, shopping centre, floating restaurant and an open air theatre.
